The Best Ayurvedic Skincare Routine
The popularity of Ayurveda as a comprehensive natural health system is now well established around the world. This ancient path of wellness for the whole being emphasizes the importance of using natural treatments to restore balance to the doshas, known as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Ayurvedic skin care uses herbs and other natural ingredients in its approach to skincare, as it does with all treatments.
Ayurveda’s healing trifecta of plant medicine (herbs), food as medicine, and Ayurvedic lifestyle tools (mantra, meditation, mudra, yoga, pranayama and more), provides safe and natural skin care.
Dear twenty-somethings, I’m going to let you in on a little secret: The best way to prevent aging isn’t with retinol and injectables, it’s by following a customized Ayurvedic skincare routine.
Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest holistic whole-body healing systems. It seeks to address issues at the root, rather than just the surface (like injectables do), thereby offering users a sustainable solution to health and wellness.
In this article on the best Ayurvedic skincare routine for women in their 20’s to prevent aging, I’m going to walk you through:
The difference between Ayurvedic Skincare and Retinol/Injectables
Why Ayurvedic skincare works so well to prevent aging
The 3-step Ayurvedic skincare routine you should follow now to prevent aging
The Different Between Ayurvedic Skincare and Retinol and Injectables
Retinol and cosmetic injectables (such as Botox and Dysport) are frequently touted as fountains of youth. These products are said to reduce or slow the appearance of wrinkles via different routes.
Retinol, a type of retinoid made from vitamin A, works by going deep beneath the outer layer of skin to your dermis and neutralizing free radicals to boost the production of elastin and collagen. This process reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and enlarged pores.
In contrast, cosmetic injectables such as Botox and Dysport use a toxin known as Botulinum Toxin Type A. This toxin blocks signals from sending signals from the nerves to the muscles that cause facial expressions and wrinkles. In essence, it creates a ‘freeze’ effect whereby the injected areas are unable to move.
While both Retinol and cosmetic injectables do temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles, they are expensive, require life-long upkeep, and can be dangerous as well. For example, some Botox and Dysport side effects include blurred vision, dry mouth, trouble swallowing for months following treatment, and muscle stiffness (to name a few).
Ayurveda focuses on balancing your doshas (and therefore your internal energy) and may include safe and effective herbal formulations, facials, hydration, and nutrition. This natural approach to wellness will empower your body to function at an optimal level while providing it with everything needed to maintain vitality and health.
As a result, skin conditions such as acne, dry/dull skin, redness, and eczema are often resolved without other interventions. Plus the cells in your skin will be well-nourished meaning collagen production and elasticity will happen naturally.
Why Ayurvedic Skincare Works so Well to Prevent Aging
It works by curating a skincare routine and lifestyle based on your unique genetic makeup and doshic combination. As a result, you receive customized solutions for how to maintain your physical appearance and health. This is a key differentiating factor between Ayurveda and other skincare solutions because what works for you won’t necessarily work for everyone and vice versa.
The 3-step Ayurvedic skincare routine you should follow now to prevent aging
Ayurvedic Skincare Step 1: Take 2-minute meditation
One of the biggest contributors to premature aging is stress. Stress wreaks havoc on the mind and body and may have various negative effects including high blood pressure, anxiety, chronic fatigue and headaches, skin conditions, depression and so much more.
Stress is often a result of the busyness of life, and not taking enough time to relax and unwind. Fortunately, you can reduce the stress you experience in your life by taking several daily 2-minute meditation vacations, everyday.
To get started, listen to these instructions: Two Minute Meditation
Not only will this state of relaxation help you feel more energized and relaxed, but it will also help you reset your mind thereby lowering your stress levels before they get out of control.
Go deeper into your meditation practice by using our free daily guided practices. 11 minutes as the anchor of your Ayurvedic morning routine, and 11 minutes as your evening routine anchor.
"When we breathe diaphragmatically and when we consistently practices systematic relaxation, we move from flight-fight-freeze mode, to rest-restore-relax and that's where we want to abide."

Ayurvedic Skincare Step 2: Detoxify and hydrated your skin
Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and it’s constantly at work absorbing whatever you put on it (including the chemicals in your bathwater).
What’s more, your skin has a dramatic effect on your appearance. If it’s well-maintained and regularly detoxified, it will have a healthy, youthful glow. If it’s neglected or improperly cleaned, it will look dull and result in a variety of skin conditions that lead to premature aging (such as chronic dry skin).
Ayurvedic skincare including herbs and dosha balancing will enable you to remove the impurities and give your skin the TLC it needs to thrive.
Here is a basic cleansing routine you can follow:
Remove makeup with almond oil
Wash your face with lukewarm water to remove surface particles from your face
Use organic face cleansers (as opposed to chemical-based alternatives). When you use naturally derived face wash, you will reduce the risk of skin irritation that leads to dry/broken-out skin.
Exfoliate with Ayurvedic scrub. The specific combination most suited for you will depend on your doshic combination. Some examples include cinnamon and honey, turmeric and sugar, orange peel, and apricot.
Moisturize your skin with a natural product such as almond, jojoba, or sesame oil. This will enable your skin to maintain its essential oils so it stays hydrated. Which oil is best for your skin is based on your doshic picture. Book your free initial phone consultation.
Ayurvedic Skincare Step 3: Balance your body
Lifestyle balance is key to maintaining useful skin and preventing unnecessary aging. The small decisions you make throughout the day have a massive impact on your life in both the short and long term.
For example, the decision to consistently stay up late scrolling through social media rather than sleeping will have a negative effect on your mental state, concentration, and ability to focus during waking hours. Likewise, choosing to eat fast-food options rather than whole foods will eventually impact your health, vitality, and appearance.
To keep your body balanced, there are several key areas you need to focus on including:
Going to bed before 10pm each night
Use food as medicine based on your unique doshic combination
When you balance your body, you balance your mental and physical health too. In turn, you will enjoy higher energy levels, greater immunity, and a more youthful appearance during each stage of your life.
Above all remember, aging impacts more than your physical appearance — it also impacts your overall well-being — and you don’t start aging once you hit middle age. Instead, you already are aging (from the inside out) on a daily basis.
That’s why it’s important to establish a healthy skincare routine now — not once your skin is wrinkled and dull. By using Ayurvedic lifestyle practices to maintain your skin and overall health, you will enjoy a more youthful and healthy appearance each and every day of your life.
